How High Sugar Intake Raises Your Risk of Depression
Research shows sugar can do more than harm your body — it can hurt your mind too. A 2017 study in Scientific Reports found that men who consumed more than 67g of sugar daily had a 23% higher risk of depression over five years than those eating less than 40g.
High sugar intake causes rapid blood sugar spikes and crashes, increases inflammation, and disrupts neurotransmitters — all of which negatively affect mood and motivation.
