Musician QUOC TRUNG — Living Heritage

Musician

QUOC TRUNG

ULTIMATELY

As a quintessential Hanoian intellectual, a man of high ideals who holds others to exacting standards—and himself to an even higher one—musician Quốc Trung’s path to perfection has truly been an arduous odyssey.

His talent is rare, precious, and for that very reason, not easily approached. Those who come to him must first prove that they understand and deeply value what he brings—kindred spirits in ideal, in resonance, in artistic kinship. Since Thanh Lam, perhaps no one has reached Quốc Trung at that profound stratum of music, where the Eastern soul converges seamlessly with world-class artistry.

With a measured ego—characteristic of his generation—paired with professionalism and quiet restraint, he always preserves for himself a necessary private space. Yet through his sometimes “steely” public remarks, we still glimpse a steady, unwavering current: a belief that true music is a “way of life.”

For him, Chung is the pursuit of one’s ideals to their very end—whether in music or in life itself.

QUOTES

In his music, beauty is intertwined with integrity, and creativity is inseparable from character. That is his most sophisticated legacy: a world-class standard for life and craft, yet one that begins with the honesty and self-respect of every single note.

How important a role does the spirit play in your "well-being"?

Patience and stillness no longer seem to exist, and life has become far less romantic. People no longer read thick books or novels; instead, they prefer to scroll through TikTok for a few seconds, consuming information in flashes. Sometimes I wonder—perhaps my generation was “influenced” by the lifestyle of the Western aristocracy?

So what does “spiritual nobility” mean in this context? It means being gallant, being romantic; choosing death over committing anything dishonorable, choosing to protect one’s integrity rather than be destroyed by wrongdoing. Things are very different now. People are far less romantic, even though they have every condition to be.

In life, “spiritual nobility” is essential. If one regards spiritual values as the most precious elements of life and experience, then that is what this nobility truly is. One will love beauty, cherish art, and live with humanity, integrity, and romance.
